Beauty, Barber, and Cosmetic Arts: Designing Success for Small Business

Course Overview:
This comprehensive four-hour course is designed to equip aspiring barbers and stylists with the foundational business knowledge necessary for starting successful shops and salons. Through practical sessions and experiential guidance, attendees will learn how to navigate the key elements of ownership and management. The course covers a wide range of topics, from legitimizing your business to preparing to report taxes, ensuring you’re prepared to thrive. This one-night event will be held at the WCC Cosmetic Arts Center located close to Hwy 55 and Walgreens Pharmacy off Forest Hills Road at 2616 Forest Hills Road, Wilson. 
 
Course Agenda:
 
Module 1: Legitimizing Your Business In this module, attendees will learn the essential steps for legally establishing a business, including choosing the right business structure (e.g., LLC, sole proprietorship, etc.), obtaining licenses, and understanding local regulations. We'll cover the importance of insurance, contracts, and how to set up a legitimate business to protect both you and your clients.
 
Module 2: Building Your Brand Branding is crucial to your salon's success. This module explores how to create a powerful brand identity that resonates with your target audience. Attendees will learn how to craft a unique brand story, gain quick tips to develop visual assets (e.g., logos, colors, and marketing materials), and implement strategies for online and offline marketing that increase visibility and attract loyal clients.
 
Module 3: Financial Management & Record-Keeping Managing finances is the backbone of any successful business. Attendees will learn how to monetize their services, maintain accurate records of income and expenses, set up financial systems to track performance, and handle purchasing supplies efficiently. Additionally, we'll cover the basics of tax reporting preparation and the importance of staying organized to ensure profitability and compliance.
 
Module 4: Understanding Key Business Models This module explores the different business models in the beauty, barber, and cosmetic arts industry, including booth rental, salon suites, barber shops, and commissioned salons. Attendees will learn the advantages and challenges of each model and how to choose the right fit based on their career goals, financial situation, and business aspirations.
