Wilson's Workforce and Carolina Across 100
Wilson's Workforce and Carolina Across 100

Along with 12 other communities, Wilson was recently selected to be part of Carolina Across 100 (Cx100). This initiative, spearheaded by the School of Government at UNC Chapel Hill, seeks to respond to increasing numbers of “opportunity youth”: young people aged 16-24, who do not have a meaningful connection to an education provider or employment. Building on our track record of collaboration, and a willingness to apply innovative strategies to community challenges, Wilson’s application was chosen as part of the first cohort of Cx100.
The core project team for Cx100 includes the Chamber, Wilson Forward, the city of Wilson, Wilson Community College, and Wilson County Schools. As the Cx100 initiative progresses, this core team will rely on the leadership of a broader Wilson Workforce Alliance, currently being assembled to address systemic weaknesses and obstacles to workforce development in our community. Since the workforce pipeline has emerged as one of the most pressing issues facing our employers and economy, the Cx100 will be a critical part of a comprehensive approach to ensuring everyone in Wilson has access to rewarding, living-wage employment.
