Job Overview:
The Accounts Receivable Clerk plays a key role in managing the town's accounts receivable functions, including billing, collections, and recording payments. This position supports the town’s financial operations by ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments, maintaining financial records, and providing excellent customer service to residents and vendors. The role works closely with the finance team and reports to the Town Clerk/Deputy Finance Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and invoice utility bills, permits, and other town charges.
  • Record and reconcile payments received by cash, check, or electronic transfers.
  • Follow up on past-due accounts and perform collections when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate accounts receivable records in accordance with municipal policies and standards.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports related to receivables.
  • Respond to resident and vendor inquiries regarding billing and payments promptly and professionally.
  • Support the overall financial administrative functions of the town as needed.
  • Assist with other clerical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient department operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in municipal or government finance, bookkeeping, or accounts receivable functions preferred.
  • Experience with municipal accounting software (e.g., Edmunds or similar) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.

Schedule:

  • Part-time, approximately 20-24 hours weekly.
  • Typical work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with every other Friday off (Schedule subject to change).
